We all know that healthcare is the place be. With great pay, Benefits (Healthcare packages), Retirement Plans, Job Security, and the rewarding feeling of having a job that makes a difference. Most colleges have a long list of requirements for many of there healthcare programs and even longer waiting lists. Even once you complete all the requirements for a program your spot is not guaranteed. Many people become discouraged when they think of the time and money they need to invest in their education to gain a position within healthcare. However, there is a new big sub-field on the raise: Medical Support Positions.
What are Medical Support Positions?
Medical Support Positions include Clinical Medical Assistants, Patient Care Technicians, Phlebotomists, EKG technicians, Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, Administrative Medical Assistants, Surgical Technicians, Pharmacy Technicians, Dental Assistants, and more! The primary purpose of medical support positions is to assist medical providers in general patient care and to perform select medical procedures. Medical support positions can also help in alleviating some of the massive amounts of administration work that comes with the healthcare field. Unlike the expensive and lengthy college programs, Medical Support Positions do not require a college degree. Instead, these positions require a certificate that certifies you to work in the healthcare field under a certain title. For example, there is no college degree in phlebotomy. To work as a Phlebotomy Technician (the person that draws blood) in most states you just need to have a recognized certification.
What makes it worth it?
The reason Medical Support positions are healthcare’s next big thing is because people can receive training quickly and cheaply (depending on where you go). A variety of Trade schools offers these programs at an affordable rate and they typically last only a few months. This gives people who want a place in healthcare an alternative choice that does not require you to commit to expensive student loans or dedicate years of your life to schooling.
